Legislator discouraged by lack of road repairs in House District 8
State Representative David E. Nathan (D-Detroit) said today that a $300,000 road project in his district is on a newly released list of state funded Priority Roads Investment Program projects. The project in his district includes work on MacArthur from Clarita to Margareta, which crosses into part of House District 10.
“I am happy to see this money coming to our community to fix a portion of our road, but it is only a very small start to the overall problem in our district,” said Nathan. “Metro Detroit is in dire need of road repairs, yet communities across the state are the ones seeing the funds. We aren’t getting that in District 8, and it isn’t fair.”
In total, the Priority Roads Investment Program Project will spend more than $114.9 million on road repairs around the state. Nathan claims that the small percentage of that state funding designated for a project in his district is not enough.
“These projects may keep people in other parts of the state happy while Republican leaders enjoy their summer vacation,” Nathan said. “But yet again, Southeast Michigan is being ignored. We all need to go back to Lansing and work on a real road funding solution that fixes all of Michigan’s roads. We need to invest more money, especially in the areas where our roads are used more than any other in the state.”
