DETROIT - State Representative George Cushingberry Jr. (D-Detroit) will be the guest speaker at the 63rd annual Jabberwock Talent Showcase on Sunday, April 24.
The Detroit Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is hosting the event, titled "Connecting with Talented Youth." The purpose of the event is to provide a venue for students from Detroit area public and private schools to showcase their talent. The event also raises money for scholarships for graduating Detroit seniors.
"I am very honored and excited to be a part of this special and important event for our children," said Rep. Cushingberry. "It is essential that we encourage children to use their talents to their advantage so that they will take them far in life.
"This showcase has been a staple in our community for many, many years," Cushingberry added. "It promotes education and raises scholarships for seniors entering college. These are values that are very dear to me."
The talent showcase is an institution of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and is hosted by chapters all over the world. Since its inception, the Detroit Alumnae Chapter has raised and awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to some of Detroit's most promising high school graduates.
