LANSING – The Michigan Legislative Black Caucus will hold a community forum on Saturday, March 10, in Detroit to connect with residents and listen to their concerns.
During the forum the caucus will also roll out its agenda, which includes tackling issues such as home heating/energy, insurance redlining, and education, with a focus on early childhood education.
"The Michigan Legislative Black Caucus is working to make sure that everyone has equal access to opportunities for success," said State Representative Brenda Clack (D-Flint), Chair of the MLBC. "Our state is moving toward a better future. We must be vigilant about empowering all our residents to join in this journey."
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Northwest Activity Center, 18100 Meyers Road in Detroit. The center is located at the corner of Meyers Road and Curtis Street.
"This is the community's opportunity to tell lawmakers what's important to them," said State Representative Shanelle Jackson (D-Detroit), First Vice-Chairperson of the MLBC. "Send us to Lansing with your marching orders."
State Representative George Cushingberry, Jr. (D-Detroit), is the group's Historian.
"Important changes still need to take place to make sure that each and every child has a chance to grow up in strong communities," Cushingberry said. "The best way to make change happen is by residents and lawmakers working together."
State Representative Virgil K. Smith (D-Detroit), agreed.
"I know that my fellow Detroit-area residents have a lot to contribute to this ongoing conversation about making our state better," said Smith, who is the MLBC Parliamentarian. "I look forward to taking their ideas and concerns back to the Capitol so that we can get to work."
