LANSING -- Newly-elected State Representative George Cushingberry (D-Detroit) will be officially sworn in as legislator for the 8th District in the Michigan House of Representatives during a ceremony in the House Chamber at 12 p.m. noon on Wednesday, January 12th, 2005.
Clerk of the House Gary L. Randall will call on the 110 members of the Michigan House to take the oath of office in a constitutionally mandated event that kicks off the 2005-2006 Legislative Session.
"I t is a privilege to be back in the House serving the residents of
Detroit," said Cushingberry, who was elected on Nov. 2, 2004.
Among the issues that Cushingberry plans to address are creating more good jobs, raising the minimum wage, lowering the cost of health care and prescription drugs and strengthening public education.
"It is an honor to be able to represent my community," Cushingberry added. "I am committed to demonstrating in every way possible that state government will be truly focused on listening to the citizens of our district."
Cushingberry first served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1974 until 1982. When first elected, he was the youngest person ever to win a seat in the House.
